Why Choose CMIT Academy North HS?

Chesapeake Math and IT Academy North High School is a Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) public charter school in northern Prince George’s County that aims to serve grades 9 through 12 with an academic program focusing on mathematics and information technologies (IT). CMIT Academy is home to a thriving education community in Prince George’s county, serving all levels of primary education, from elementary all the way to high school. The high school is the final step in the CMIT educational system, where we pride ourselves on our STEM programs and initiatives, including the ITEC program, science olympiad, robotics programs, among others, dedicated to enriching the education of the next generation of STEM students and professionals.

CMIT Academy North High School has consistently been named one of the best public charter schools in the state of Maryland. US News and World Report having named us the #2 public charter school in the state for the year 2019 (behind only our sister school, Chesapeake Science Point) and the #54 public high school overall statewide. Our national school rankings are also notable, being in the top 2300 high schools nationally, and being ranked the #309 charter school nationwide. The Maryland State Department of Education also has given our school a 5/5 star rating based on a number of criteria, including graduation rate and academic progress.

With this in mind, we place great emphasis on fully motivating our students and we guide them to efficiently realize their fullest potential. Our fundamental goal here at CMIT Academy North HS is add an emphasis on mathematics and IT education here in Prince George’s County, and tailor an approach suited to better fit the needs of the Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) system to provide a unique opportunity for Prince George’s County youth to pursue professional careers as well as college education in the high paying and ever-growing field of information technologies.

Our Mission

Chesapeake Math and IT Academy North HS Public Charter School (CMIT Academy North HS), in partnership with students, parents, and the community, provides a rigorous and quality education for 9-12 school students with a special focus on science, math, and technology.
By incorporating math and technology in the classroom and encouraging students to participate in an informational society, CMIT Academy North HS students have the skills and experience to advance and excel in higher education and the workforce.

Our Vision

The vision of CMIT is to provide multiple opportunities for Prince George’s County youth to prepare for post secondary education in a variety of fields of study in order to pursue professional careers. CMIT will enable all students to achieve their maximum potential by equipping and empowering them with analytical thinking and quantitative reasoning skills.
With this vision in mind, CMIT Academy North HS will prepare students to become competent, responsible and successful individuals in our globalized and technology-based society through a strong academic program, a school-family-community partnership, and a strong teacher-student relationship. CMIT Academy North HS will inspire and challenge ninth through twelfth grade students in a creative and supportive learning environment with an academic program focusing on mathematics and information technologies to educate its students as responsible citizens.

Our Goals

Our educational approach aims to accomplish the following goals :

• Recognize the talents of all students and work to create rigorous lessons that allow them to continuously succeed at higher levels of learning,

• Provide intensive, individualized instruction in science, math, and technology with a focus on problem solving,

• Engage students through one-on-one tutoring and peer study groups,

• Prepare all students for college admittance with the requisite skills needed to excel once admitted, through rigorous coursework,

• Promote after school programs and extracurricular activities, which foster well-roundedness,

• Provide opportunities for internships, projects, science fairs and competitions,

• Collaborate with local universities, agencies and businesses to enhance the school community.

It is our goal to use new and innovative educational practices with students that allow for academic success and advanced educational opportunities. Our students have a broad spectrum of options for their future endeavors and are prepared to be responsible and productive citizens of society. CMIT’s educational program sees each student as an important person in the school and is committed to the mission of establishing a partnership with parents and the community.
